Flying privately into Batumi

Batumi's airport sits two kilometres from the city and runs through the night. For a private flight that is most of what matters — but not all of it.

The airport

Alexander Kartveli Batumi International sits two kilometres south of the city, on the coast road toward the Turkish border. It is an airport of entry with a single 2,500-metre runway, open around the clock, and has been run by TAV Airports under concession since 2007. Scheduled traffic reached 1.23 million passengers in 2025.

Handling

Several ground handlers operate at Batumi, among them AFS Ground Handling and VIP Aviation Handling. They arrange fuel, customs and immigration for passengers and crew, and the permissions a non-scheduled flight requires. Jet A-1 is available. In July and August, when the resort is full, book handling well ahead of the flight rather than on the day.

Why the runway figure varies

Published sources give the runway at anything from 2,233 to 2,600 metres, depending on when they were written. The operator and current flight-planning references agree on 2,500 by 45 metres. That is long enough for the large-cabin, long-range business jets most owners fly; planners should still check performance for their aircraft on a hot summer day.

When Batumi is not the right airport

Tbilisi, with a 3,000-metre runway, is the choice for the largest aircraft or for a trip that takes in both cities. Kutaisi, between the two, is dominated by low-cost scheduled traffic and serves Batumi by road. Batumi's airport also serves north-eastern Türkiye, and the border crossing at Sarpi is a short drive south. For most private flights to the coast, nothing beats landing two kilometres from the sea.

What it means for owning here

For a buyer weighing Batumi against another coast, access is not a detail. An airport this close shortens every arrival, and a round-the-clock operation means a late departure from Western Europe still lands the same night. It is one of the few claims in Batumi’s sales material that stands up to checking.
